Prior to becoming a professional photographer, I worked at Haymarket Publishing at Campaign magazine and then for Redwood Publishing, becoming Advertising Manager of The English Heritage Magazine. For over 7 yrs I was surrounded by the very best photography, that kind of experience always stays with you. I left to do a BTEC at City of Westminster College then left London & opened my studio. Within a year I’d won the title of AGFA Digital Portrait Photographer of the Year and a prestigious Kodak Gold Award. Years later, I was one of the first UK photographers to invest in digital technology. These days I juggle commissions with being a full time carer for my mum, who lives with me.The Studio
It’s not all chrome and glass, it’s a home studio but it’s v cool ~ powered by tea, there are vases of allottment flowers, plenty of seating and a large tv that would kill a small dog if it fell off the wall. It’s pretty much self-contained and totally private, there’s also a log burner (toasty.) Visitors are treated as guests & soon feel at home. Studio hours are 10-6pm but I’ll happily work eves and/weekends if required.Studio Kit
My customers deserve the very best and I’ve recently upgraded to the latest Nikon, which captures high quality images @ 30 megapixels+ the level of detail is incredible. My lighting system is ceiling tracked (no trip hazards) and all portraits are lit with softboxes that diffuse the the light, which create very flattering results, it’s a very simple set-up but it’s a system that works.Location Kit
Once again I use Nikon and the best model for capturing images in low light. I use oncamera LED lighting which gives a beautiful soft light, it doesn’t flash so it’s unobtrusive and very subtle. Lenses include a long (300mm) which is great for candid portraits (I regularly use this at Cranfield University.) On location I always work fast, with the minimum of fuss & disruption (without tripods/lighting stands.)Retouching & Printing
I provide a complete creative service and this includes professional retouching - adding catchlights to tired eyes, softening wrinkles, even airbrushing away blemishes & whitening teeth. There’s no need to outsource output(!) as I also provide large format printing onsite. If you don’t know about digital stuff, just tell me the images that you need. I can help with the rest - trust me I’ve been doing this a long time..What I don't shoot
Weddings, Proms/Parties, Bar Mitzva, PR (handing over cheques, events etc) other photographers really do this far better, than I ever could. Great work for tiny budgets, I’ll negotiate but if the budget is unfeasible/non-existent then with respect, I’m not the photographer for you.Charity
I was in charge of PR for the first Stony Open Gardens (£30k+ for Willen Hospice), I’ve also shot the Willen calendar & last year I donated hrs of post production time + four photoshoots to Aspley Guise School - please don’t ask me for raffle prizes/donations. I do my bit.Work Experience
I’m not after an assistant or trainee or on anyone for work experience - paid or unpaid (if your mum/dad rings, I'm sorry but it’s still a ‘no.’)
